Executive MScom Program Helps Communicators in Europe Get Ahead
Posted on 2007-06-14

A well-balanced mix of academic and practical components and professional networking opportunities are the strengths of the University of Lugano's Executive Master of Science in Communications Management (MScom). A part-time, postgraduate course of study for experienced communications professionals, MScom was founded in 1999 at the Swiss university.

(Nina Volles, managing director of the program, will offer an information session describing this prestigious program on Wednesday 27 June at 18.00 at the Marriott in Brussels.)

Global view

An international perspective in approaching communications management is ensured by the Program's faculty from Europe and North America, and the MScom partnerships with Copenhagen Business School in Denmark and the UCLA Anderson School of Management in the US.

"MScom is very useful for broadening your view if you want a career in communications. It supports an integrated and strategic view of communications, rather than focusing only on a single discipline" says Susanne Schluckebier, a self-employed brand and communications consultant and program graduate.

MScom graduates recognize that the Program opened them up to a different way of thinking about communications, put them in touch with a dynamic network of professionals, and ultimately helped them to boost their careers.

Diverse backgrounds

The average age of participants is 36, and most already have 12 years of professional experience when the begin the program. All have diverse educational backgrounds, ranging from communications to economics to humanities to law to natural sciences, and work in different roles and activity sectors.

Anita Bunk, MScom graduate and Press and Public Relations Officer at ND SatCom, Germany confirms: "It was challenging at first to be faced with 22 people from a wide variety of work experiences and backgrounds but after the first hour it became obvious to me that [...] we're all there to learn and to get a fresh perspective on communications. I've specially enjoyed the discussions I've had with my classmates with more professional experience than I have, and finding them asking me for my opinion."

Lifelong learning

Guaranteeing a continuum extending far beyond graduation is fundamental for MScom Program's organizers: they therefore offer the Alumni the opportunity to attend any MScom lectures in Lugano free of charge.

Elena Lidonnici, MScom graduate and currently Alumni Director of the Politecnico di Milano, Italy particularly values the opportunity for lifelong learning: "I consider MScom a good investment. The days of going to college and thinking that's all you need to do for the rest of your career are long gone. Today, a career is about lifelong learning. Mscom is part of that for me."
